WordPress Design: Widgets

This entry updates: Uncategorized,

If you’ve spent any time looking at blogs, you’ve probably seen a variety of extra features in the sidebars of these sites: search boxes, tag clouds, archives by date, links to Twitter accounts, etc.

WordPress comes with some basic widgets built in, but whether appear on your site and how they’re formated will depend on how the site theme is set up to display them.

If you switch your theme to try a new design, you may need to add your widgets again. WordPress can save settings for your widgets in a separate area on the bottom. Most themes include widgets in a basic sidebar area. Some include multiple “widget areas” in several columns or in the footer.

Our supplement theme currently only includes one basic sidebar area for widgets, though the header options on the front page function similarly to a sidebar.
